Restorative Care

When it comes to your teeth, regular evaluations and cleanings are much more important than you may realize. A regular dental evaluation offers you and your family non-invasive dental services to detect and prevent tooth infections while helping maintain healthy teeth and gums. Catching any potential issues as early as possible is the best way for you to avoid going through lengthy and costly dental procedures in the future. The skilled team and knowledgeable dentists at Ideus Family Dental Care will make sure that your regular evaluation will be both enjoyable and helpful in supporting excellent oral health. Our goal is to help you create proper dental health habits and to provide you and your family with lifelong oral care.

Why Are Regular Dentist Checkups Necessary?

Because they are such a crucial part of oral health and hygiene, regular dental evaluations should generally occur two times per year, though in some patients may be needed more frequently. These regular evaluations at Ideus Family Dental Care will help prevent more serious dental issues like decay and gum disease and may provide an important treatment plan to follow that could become a bigger issue if left unidentified. Our evaluations do not just focus on your teeth. During your evaluation with us, we check your gums, tongue, neck and throat.

Like many of our other patients, you may be surprised to learn the importance of proper evaluations and dental cleanings.  Most of the time, the surprise comes when you learn no matter how thoroughly you brush your teeth, there are hard-to-reach places where plaque, tartar, gum swelling and tooth decay can reside. Your regular evaluations give us the opportunity to address potential problems and allow you to share any concerns or issues you may have regarding your oral health.

Your comprehensive evaluation will include the following services:

  • X-rays to evaluate cavities unsee to the eye, tumors, cysts, bone loss, and tooth positions, and root infections
  • A gum disease evaluation
  • An oral cancer screening
  • Examination identifying areas of potential tooth decay and
  • Evaluation of existing restorations (fillings, crows, bridges, implants, etc)
  • Gentle and professional teeth cleaning

Benefits of Routine Dental Checkups

Dental health has a direct impact on your overall health and wellness. Through regular dental evaluations, we not only perform preventative care but also help identify the signs of future issues and greatly reduce the risk for certain illnesses through early detection. In our experience, early detection is one of the greatest benefits of regular dental visits because we are able to spot and start preventative treatment for concerns that could turn into larger issues in the future. Evaluations are your greatest chance of preserving your natural teeth and avoiding irreversible tooth loss. Biannual dental evaluations help our team educate you on proper dental hygiene. Creating healthy habits can help fight bacteria in your mouth and promote overall healthier teeth. If you need more of a personalized dental hygiene routine, it is important to keep up with your dental checkups so that you have professionals monitoring your oral health.

What To Expect From A Teeth Checkup

Overall, you should experience little to no pain in your dental evaluation. Pain or discomfort experienced during a routine dental exam is dependent upon any pre-existing issues. If you are experiencing any inflammation in the gums, sensitivity in the teeth, or tooth decay, there may be some slight discomfort during the exam. If discomfort is experienced, be sure to communicate that to the provider, and no matter the procedure, the discomfort can immediately be stopped. Lastly, a thorough teeth cleaning, especially in a mouth with sensitive teeth, may feel slightly uncomfortable. This can be easily adjusted with a more gentle pressure and warmer water, so don’t hesitate to ask.

Evaluation Recovery Time

Routine dental checkups do not include any major dental work. However, any problems found during the exam may require further treatment. The recovery time for any additional procedures will vary. The tooth and gum sensitivity following a teeth cleaning can take 5-7 days at most to subside. You may also experience some swelling and bleeding of the gums during this period.
